Kuris, and James R. Carey Eradication Revisited: Dealing with Exotic Species. (... a review article about the possibilities and potential consequences of eradication as an alternative to eliminate or reduce the biodiversity, ecological, health, and economic damage that can be caused when species of plants and animals are introduced--deliberately or accidentally--into areas in which they have not lived in the past. Eradication is the removal of every potentially reproducing individual of a species or the reduction of their population density below sustainable levels. The authors discuss past and present efforts around the world in which the eradication of exotic or invasive species have/has been attempted and analyze the reasons why the efforts seem to have succeeded or failed. Several alternatives to eradication are also presented and explained. The authors conclude that removing an exotic species is possible, but only under some circumstances and with potentially unpredictable results.
