What’s the best way to get eggs from chickens?

At an exhibit in Iowa, USA, a comparison of the ways of getting eggs from chickens:

Getting eggs from chickens: conventional housing versus cage-free versus free-range

The “conventional housing” is demonstrated:

And, is touted over “cage-free” and “free-range” emphasizing safety and health:

Statements about free-range chickens and eggs

Yet, the birds are packed into cages and an actual production facility looks more like this:

And, laws impacting the availability of “cage-free” and “free-range” have been influenced by corporate egg producing groups. Other laws have been influenced by groups opposed to “conventional housing.”

What do you think of this?

Does the information at the exhibit give you the facts to be an “informed consumer”? Or, is it propaganda for corporate agriculture? The consequences and downsides of breeding/raising animals in confinement and treating them with antibiotics are becoming clear.

One way to take a stand–whichever way–is how you choose to spend your money. Individuals can make a difference; people working collectively can have much more power.
